A well-fitted wader makes every day on the water more enjoyable. Here's what to know before you buy, and how to keep your waders fishing for years.
Waders should fit with room for layering in cold weather — especially in the chest and seat. Order your usual pants size or go one up. Check the inseam measurement against the brand's size chart for height fit.
Stockingfoot waders come with a neoprene sock. Wear a thin wool or synthetic liner sock underneath for comfort and blister prevention. Avoid cotton — it holds moisture and causes cold spots.
Breathable waders rely on DWR (durable water repellent) coating to bead water off the outer fabric. Re-apply DWR spray each season, or tumble-dry on low heat — heat reactivates existing coating.
Tiny pinhole leaks are normal over time. Use Aquaseal UV or a dedicated wader repair kit — apply from the inside, let cure 24 hours. Most leaks can be repaired at home in minutes.
